Goat's Milk vs. Cow's Milk

Goat’s milk and cow’s milk are both great ways to include dairy in your diet, but how do they differ? Well, it turns out that neither one is healthier than the other, but they can be better for some depending on your dietary needs.

Goat’s milk is slightly higher in calories and fat, but contains more protein and less cholesterol than whole cow’s milk. In regards to carbs and sugar, the two are identical. Goat’s milk contains higher levels of nutrients such as calcium and vitamin A, but cow’s milk contains higher amounts of vitamin B and selenium. Goat milk has shown that it may be more gentle on the digestive system due to its micro-proteins, which makes it a better choice for those who struggle with cow’s milk. Despite of this, goat’s milk is NOT lactose-free, meaning if someone is lactose intolerant, they can still face issues with goat’s milk. If one is allergic to cow’s milk, they are most likely allergic to goat’s milk as well, meaning it cannot be used as a substitute. The downside to goat’s milk is its taste, as it is quite different from cow’s milk and can be an adjustment to some. Cow’s milk if often smoother and has a more neutral taste, which most prefer, while goat cheese has a stronger and more unique flavour, which can be a hurdle for some.

At the end of the day, both are great choices to include in your diet as they provide crucial nutrients for your body, it all comes down to your personal preference!
