The Health Benefits of Maple Syrup

Today, eating waffles or pancakes without maple syrup seems almost impossible. The golden, delicious syrup has become a staple in many households. Turns out, it is actually quite good for you! Maple syrup has quite a high content of antioxidants, especially compared to other sweeteners. Antioxidants can prevent oxidative stress, which can lead to many chronic diseases like cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Specifically, darker maple syrup provides these benefits. It also contains manganese, zinc, copper, iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. It can lower bad cholesterol and lower the risk of developing diseases like Alzheimer’s. However, it is important to remember that maple syrup is high in sugar, specifically sucrose, which is difficult for the body to digest. Overall, maple syrup can offer great benefits, but should be consumed with moderation as it contains high amount of sugar.
