The Health Benefits of Tea

Tea is (and has been) a very popular drink around the world for centuries. Whether it is consumed hot or cold, tea can be found in almost every corner of the world. Though there are many different types of teas, it has been found that drinking any kind of tea can have great health benefits. White tea is one of the most powerful teas when it comes to health benefits due to its high amount of antioxidants. The antioxidants present in white tea can help prevent chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and others. White tea can also protect teeth as it contains fluoride, catechins, and tannins, all nutrients important for teeth health. Herbal teas have similar health benefits to white tea as they have the same foundations, except that herbal teas contain different types of herbs and flowers in addition to the white tea leaves. The health benefits of these teas vary depending on the herbs included, but all are known for their calming effects as they usually do not contain any caffeine. For example, ginger tea can help relieve morning sickness, chamomile tea can help relieve menstrual cramps, and peppermint tea can decrease headaches. Green tea is a specific type of tea that is extremely beneficial in supporting heart health. It can lower bad cholesterol, lower blood pressure, decrease the chance for blood clots, and can even help with certain cancers. It can also have great effects on skin appearance. Black tea can be used as a substitute to coffee as it includes caffeine, and it also great for supporting your immune system. Finally, oolong tea has some great effects on the brain. An amino acid found in oolong tea called l-theanine can help in preventing Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as decrease anxiety and increase attention spans. Overall, all teas have a great amount of health benefits for the body. However, many iced teas or other variations of tea, such as bubble tea, do not have the same benefits as they also contain high amounts of sugar and other processed materials. A cup of tea a day is a great addition to your diet and can offer many great health benefits!
